Keisha Johnstone
Keisha is an accomplished educator, spoken word artist, behavioral clinician, and mental health advocate. With an unwavering commitment to historically marginalized communities, Keisha has pushed the boundaries of music and art through grassroots community outreach programs.
Born in St. Catherine (Spanish, Town) Jamaica, Keisha observed individuals with disabilities who endure rough conditions and limited resources. Upon arrival to the United States, she took her profound passion for helping the underrepresented and has served in special education, mental health, and various behavioral fields for over 25 years.
Working at The School for the Deaf in Wilson, North Carolina, Maryland Committee for Children, The Arc of Montgomery County, and Prince George's County, allowed Keisha to diversify her experience with various disciplines in education.
Keisha attended The George Washington University receiving her Master of Arts in Education and Human Development(M.A. Ed.) for Children with Emotional and Behavioral Disorders. Keisha further served in various roles as Director of Children’s Clinical Services (Community Support Services) Director of Programs( Raising a Village Foundation) and Special Education Teacher working with historically marginalized communities, music, and the arts. She taught hip hop and jazz for Black Rock Center for the Arts, mentored youths for Macedonia Baptist Church, and taught students who were deaf how to step(dance). Keisha has lent her talents in choreography, artistic design, and program development for perfusions of African, African American, Caribbean, and various other cultural programs.
